Kitchen's Opera House

Add to plan Remove from plan

The two-story building built was by Pat Kennedy and Pete Kitchen in 1895. It has a large hall on the second floor that one had a stage, while a grand saloon and a café occupied the first floor commercial spaces. “Opera Houses” in the American West, were not traditionally classical music opera style theaters, but instead served as venues for gambling, boxing, dancing, theater, church functions, balls, and more. The building is closed to the public but unique elements of its history can be seen from Route 66, including rumored bullet holes in the Kitchen's Opera House Door from an old western shoot out on the Mother Road.
